Looking for a gift with a story behind it? This basket in yellow, red and gray swirls was hand woven in Panama from chunga palm. Its bold yellow, red and gray bands swirl diagonally around the sides and spiral into the base. Keep small treasures inside, or let it stand on a shelf or table as a piece of art.

Baskets like this one are woven by Wounaan and Emberá women in the Darién rainforest of Panama, a skill handed down from mothers and grandmothers to daughters. Fine strands of chunga palm, colored with natural dyes from rainforest plants and earth, are coiled tightly around a core of naguala fiber, stitch by stitch, from the center of the base up to the rim. Every basket is woven entirely by hand, so each one is truly one of a kind.

Founded in 1991, TraderBrock celebrates the handcraft of Latin America's indigenous peoples. We work with Guna, Wounaan and Emberá artisans we know by name, and all profits go back into their communities for education, tools and the teaching of ancestral techniques.
