Bring a little of Panama's rainforest home with this Nested Twinkles basket plate in red, black and cream nested stars, woven by hand from chunga palm. Its red, black and cream star outlines nest inside each other, spreading outward from the middle. It makes a thoughtful gift for anyone who loves handmade art and the rainforest. Set it on a plate stand, a shelf or a tabletop where its colors can be seen.

Plates like this one are woven by Wounaan and Emberá women in the Darién rainforest of Panama, a skill handed down from mothers and grandmothers to daughters. Fine strands of chunga palm, colored with natural dyes from rainforest plants and earth, are coiled tightly around a core of naguala fiber, stitch by stitch, from a small knot at the center out to the rim. Every plate is woven entirely by hand, so each one is truly one of a kind.

Founded in 1991, TraderBrock celebrates the handcraft of Latin America's indigenous peoples. We work with Guna, Wounaan and Emberá artisans we know by name, and all profits go back into their communities for education, tools and the teaching of ancestral techniques.
