Collectors of handmade art will appreciate this Twinkle Hoops plate basket in yellow, red and blue star border, a vintage plate from Panama's Darién rainforest. The yellow plate is stitched in lime green, ringed by a red stepped band and framed by a blue and yellow star. Set it on a plate stand, a shelf or a tabletop where its colors can be seen.

From Jan at MolaMagic: This is a rare plate basket. We once saw this design often, but I believe most of them were sold in Panama in the 1990s, so this one is a lucky survivor. It has a fancy border, too.

Plates like this one are woven by Wounaan and Emberá women in the Darién rainforest of Panama, a skill handed down from mothers and grandmothers to daughters. Fine strands of chunga palm, colored with natural dyes from rainforest plants and earth, are coiled tightly around a core of naguala fiber, stitch by stitch, from a small knot at the center out to the rim. Every plate is woven entirely by hand, so each one is truly one of a kind.

MolaMagic was founded by Janet Marie Brockman with a simple but powerful mission: to help indigenous artisans in Panama share their art with the world. All profits go right back into the artisan community, supporting education, medical care, land, tools, and daily needs. Buying a MolaMagic basket means you are part of that story too.
